Objectives of Velo-city 2009
For the Brussels-Capital Region
- Present high-standard cycling infrastructures.
- Recognition for cycling to be incorporated in a sustainable, intermodal transport policy.
At a European Level
- Ensure that greater consideration is given to cycling in all transport-related policies, particularly in urban environments.
- Recognition of the positive impact that cycling has on health and the environment.
- The signing of the Charter of Brussels, in which European cities undertake to continue to invest in cycling policy, as well as the involvement of the European Commission.
Charter of Brussels
- Velo-city 2009 will finish with the signing of the 'Charter of Brussels', a pledge from European cities to invest in cycling as the sustainable fully-fledged means of urban transport and call out for concrete initiatives from European institutions to promote this.
